Last week I got an email from Tyler, who was planning a weekend trip to DC to propose to his girlfriend of seven years, Washcarina. He wanted to propose in Meridian Hill Park, but they live in New York and had never been to the park before, so we spoke on the phone a few times to plan everything out. It’s always nerve-wracking photographing a proposal because you want to be close enough to get the emotion of the moment without giving away the surprise, or looking like a creepy stranger with a camera. I tried to play it cool by parking myself by the spot with a book and headphones. Washcarina probably thought I was a little strange but I’m happy to report that I didn’t give anything away.
